There are two types of doulas:
birth and postpartum doulas.
Dreambirths matches both birth and postpartum doulas to families.*
A birth doula is someone who is experienced
with birth and provides support to a woman and her family in the prenatal
period, at the birth and during the postpartum period. Normally, she begins helping
the family about six weeks before baby's due date and completes her
services about six weeks after baby has arrived. Birth doulas can offer
education about birth, care in pregnancy, tips for naturally starting labor,
pain management techniques, personal support during childbirth, help in the
postpartum period and much more. For more detailed information about birth
doulas, click here.
A postpartum doula helps families after the
baby has come home. She normally works on an hourly basis, providing
help to new moms with baby care, feeding (breastfeeding and bottle), sleep issues, household
management and more. Postpartum doulas are uniquely trained to help the
family get through the postpartum period in a healthy way. Each postpartum doula creates her own package of
services and sets her own price.
*Our doulas are independently contracted, which means you hire your doula after you have been matched,
outside of the Dreambirths program. We simply do the leg work for you, finding
the best possible doulas for you to choose from. Each doula sets her
own price for her service package.
